Biography
Minette Lourens
I am a dedicated educator and remedial reading practitioner with a strong commitment to supporting children who experience learning and reading difficulties. I hold a Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training from the University of South Africa and bring over eight years of experience working as an educator for learners with special needs. Over the past decade, I have focused extensively on helping children who struggle with reading, including five years of hands-on experience assisting young learners with remedial reading intervention. My work is grounded in structured literacy, using systematic and evidence-based methods to develop essential phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills that form the foundation for successful learning. I believe that effective intervention goes beyond academics. I pair structured instruction with a warm, encouraging, and supportive approach that helps children feel safe, confident, and motivated to engage in learning. I work closely with parents to gain a deep understanding of each child’s unique needs, to monitor progress carefully, and to adapt intervention strategies to ensure meaningful and sustained improvement. My goal is simple - to build strong foundational reading skills while restoring each child’s belief in their own ability to learn, grow, and succeed.
